"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
~1 Peter 5:10
Julie Bumgardner Hill was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on June 16, 2025. After a courageous three-and-a-half-year cancer journey with leiomyosarcoma, she passed peacefully at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, N.C.
Julie was born in Kings Mountain, N.C., to Barbara Marie and Donald Ray Bumgardner on February 10, 1968. She met the love of her life and husband of almost 37 years, Charles “Chuck” Hill, in the 9th grade at Highland Junior High School and they were later married on July 9, 1988. She led a life that exemplified faith, love, and passion for family.
Julie’s family was one of her greatest joys in life. She took immense pride in her role as a mother and Grammy, dedicating quality time to her children – Cassie Marie Friday (Jeffrey), Caroline Elizabeth Hill (Jackson Harbin), Charlie James “CJ” Hill, and Julian Scott Hill – and her beloved grandson, Bryce Friday. Also left to cherish her memory: siblings Johnny James “Jimmy” Bumgardner (Jenelle), Paul Matthew “Matt” Bumgardner (Ceja), and Derenda Kay Gentry (Jake); in-laws Laura Hill and Larry and Patricia Plemmons; brother-in-law Tony Hill; and sister-in-law Stacy Burlison (Shaun); along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her sister Brenda Lee Bumgardner and father-in-law Bryson Hill.
Julie’s faith in Jesus Christ was abundant. She was a member of City Church in Gastonia, N.C., and cherished the lifelong friendships she made through serving at the church and in her small group. She was a prayer warrior, consistently calling on God’s faithfulness and providence.
Julie loved spending time with her family, creating many memories, especially through beach and camping trips. She loved to garden, a passion she shared with her parents.
As a wife, mom, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, Grammy, aunt and friend, Julie made a tremendous impact on every person she met. She wrapped each person with love and care and will be missed dearly. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched and the family and friends she so deeply adored.
