Gregory Alan Hoffman, 67, of Midland, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 29, 2023 at Woodland Hospice after battling leiomyosarcoma for four years. He was born to the late Robert Hoffman and Agnes Havig on March 11, 1956 in South Dakota.
Greg grew up in Billings, MT where he graduated from Billings West High School. He then graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, MN and received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He moved to Midland, MI where he had a successful and fun career with Dow Chemical for 37 years, working in R&D, information technology and lab automation. He enjoyed family time, cooking, tech, and fine dining.
He leaves his wife, Sally of Midland, MI, a son, Justin of Somersworth, NH, a daughter, Lauren of Buffalo, NY, and a sister Karen Buchmann (Werner), of Phoenix, AZ. Also important in his life were Sally’s family: sister-in-law Sherrie Selissen (Doug) and her family, brother-in-law Jeff Simbob, and mother-in-law Marlene Simbob.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Havig, and father, Robert Hoffman.
A cremation has taken place and per his wishes no services will be planned.
In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the Leiomyosarcoma Support & Direct Research Foundation in his honor.
