This fund is to accept donations for cancer research in the name of Regina Hottois. They will be used for research on her particular rare kind of cancer Leiomyosarcoma or LMS. Here is her story:

Regina was a beautiful soul who could light up any room with her contagious smile. She will always be remembered for her loving personality, and if you knew her, you were sure to love her. On March 3, 2020, she began the fight of her life when she went to the ER with stomach pains that scared her. She was admitted into the hospital with a large uterine tumor. On March 4th, she had emergency surgery, and our world was turned upside down as she was faced with the horrible disease of cancer. She found out later that week that it would be a tough battle as she had an aggressive cancer- leiomyosarcoma(LMS). Those that knew her knew how strong she was, and she never let this disease take that from her. She battled an ileus for four weeks as she eagerly awaited the start of chemotherapy. Her first treatment began on March 24th in Louisville, and this treatment continued through July 24th. On July 30th, she was admitted with back pain as the cancer progressed regardless of the treatment. After long discussions with her doctors and finding out the cancer had spread to her lungs and sacrum, she and her family made the difficult decision to travel to MD Anderson in Houston in hopes of gaining more time with her family. After several aggressive treatments, the chemo was too much for her body. Through all of this, she remained strong and was determined to make it home to her wonderful husband and her two beautiful children. On October 1st, her son’s 16th birthday, she made it home. On October 4th, she was reunited with her family. Her new Doctors in Louisville started a different treatment that allowed us to have one last Christmas with sweet Regina. Christmas always brought her joy, and we will forever have the memories of her through her annual Christmas letters and beautiful hand-made ornaments. Regina would often use her vacation time to make these for her family, and we will forever have these to cherish. On January 22nd, 2021, the cancer took her from us, but we will always remember her for her kind soul and endless joy.  One way her endless joy was obvious to all, was her love of music she loved to sing and sing loud.  We wanted to share with you some of her favorite oldies Regina's Favorite Oldies.

Throughout this entire journey, Regina would always say she wished there were more money for LMS research like there is for breast cancer research.  In 2021, we raised $5,470 and in Regina’s memory, we have set up this fund for donations toward LMS research to continue her giving legacy.
